2017-11-04 Northumbria Junior U-11 Bhuvan Jumani won the Under-11 trophy at a Northumbria Junior chess Association tournament. This was an excellent result by our most active junior member.
2017-09-03 New Season The 2017/18 season starts on Wednesday 6th September, with the Junior Club starting on Wednesday 13th September. New members are always welcome, whether beginners or masters.
2017-09-03 Club Champions Ken Neat is the Club Champion after beating Thomas Eggleston in the playoff. Geoff Raw is the Minor Championship winner.
2016-11-09 International Club Correspondence Games Our club is playing two correspondence games against Colombiers in France. This was arranged by our club member Sebastien Gilment. See Ken's newsletters for the latest and if you have time to look at the games, send Ken your suggestions for our next moves.
2016-08-22 World Junior Under-20 Championship Club member Szymon Palucha has just finished with a very creditable 5/13 in the World Junior Under-20 Chess Championship in India.
2016-09-02 Website restoring The website is being restored after a hard disk failure, as it turned out shortly preceded by a backup disk failure. Most features and content should be restored in the coming season.
2014-06-04 2013/14 Season Finished The 2013/14 season has finished for both the adult and junior clubs. Both will restart in September. Any adults interested in some friendly games and analysis can meet on (most) Wednesdays from 9pm in the Woodman pub on Claypath.
2014-01-08 Durham County Division B result Durham City Canons 4-1 Hartlepool in Durham County Division B. A satisfactory win although we were definitely a bit fortunate with some of the games. .Mastering the clocks again proved to be an embarrassing problem.Non amongst us could set up the digital version so we resorted to the clockwork/steam driven model. A lesson on this subject would be useful.

2013-11-11 Durham County Division A result Darlington A 3½-1½ Durham City Bishops in Durham County Division A.
2013-11-13 Durham County Division A result Fielding a slightly weakened side, Durham City Abbots lost at home to Darlington A in Durham County Division A. Following Darlington's success over the Bishops 2 days earlier, this puts Darlington top of the league.
2013-10-24 Durham County Division A result In Durham County Division A, Durham City Abbots had an excellent 5-0 win away to Gateshead. There were some close games but the Abbots managed to come out on top on each board.
